Insulated Glass Units

At Glass Express Midlands Ltd, we provide top-quality insulated glass units, which are available in Double and triple-glazing options with low-emissivity glass technology. Our units have impressive U-values of 1.0 and 1.2 for excellent thermal efficiency and are filled with argon gas. We offer a variety of spacer bars, including the latest warm edge technology to our customers. Our laminated glass units provide unmatched security and acoustic performance, guaranteeing durability and peace of mind.

What are insulated Glass Units (IGUs)?

Insulated Glass Units (IGUs) are made of two glass panels with a spacer bar between them, which affects their performance. Warm-edge spacers are better than aluminium spacers because they are more insulating and less conductive. IGUs can be filled with Argon or Krypton for better performance. Sealants are used to fix the glass panels to the spacer bar and seal the unit’s outer edges to prevent moisture penetration. Primary sealants are used with aluminium spacers, while warm-edge spacers come with a self-adhesive primary seal. Secondary sealants like hot melt butyl provide structural strength to the IGU edge.

PERFORMANCE DATA DEFINITIONS

IGUs reduce heat loss by preventing hot air from moving towards cold air. They can also minimize heat gain in warm weather.

Key terms:

  • VLR: Percentage of visible light reflected from the glass.
  • VLT: Percentage of visible light transmitted through the glass.
  • SHGC: Solar Heat Gain Coefficient, indicating how much solar energy enters a building.
  • U-Value: Measure of heat transfer due to temperature difference, with lower values indicating better insulation.
